Senior Claims Examiner, Professional Lines, Financial Institutions
Location: In-office, NYC or Morristown, NJ

A well-established specialty P&C carrier is hiring a Senior Claims Examiner to manage complex claims for financial institution clients: fidelity bonds, fiduciary liability, credit unions, and related financial institution coverage. This is not a generalist PL seat. The team handles FI-specific exposure, not standard E&O work for architects, lawyers, or other traditional professional lines. This role owns the full claims lifecycle from investigation through resolution.

Key Responsibilities

Claims Oversight & Strategy

  • Manage end-to-end handling of complex financial institution claims: investigation, coverage analysis, reserving, litigation management, resolution
  • Evaluate and assign new claims based on complexity, jurisdiction, and expertise
  • Maintain a proactive diary system to track milestones and service standards
  • Drive timely, strategic decision-making aligned with business and client goals

Technical Expertise

  • Hands-on claims management for fidelity bond, fiduciary, and financial institution matters, including D&O and EPL exposure tied to this space
  • Direct litigation strategy alongside defense counsel, including mediations, settlement conferences, and trials
  • Analyze coverage issues, liability exposures, and damages specific to financial institution risk

Client & Broker Engagement

  • Serve as primary claims liaison for key financial institution accounts and specialty programs
  • Lead and participate in claim review meetings, presenting trend insights to stakeholders
  • Build relationships with brokers, insureds, and risk managers in the FI space

Internal Collaboration

  • Partner with Underwriting, Risk Management, and Customer Service
  • Provide claims trend insight to inform underwriting strategy and product development

Process & Compliance

  • Drive continuous improvement in claims workflows
  • Ensure compliance with internal claim handling guidelines, regulatory requirements, and NAIC guidance

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree or designation (CPCU, AIC, JD) preferred. JD not mandatory, but most of the current team holds one
  • 5+ years handling complex Professional Liability claims, with direct financial institution experience required (fidelity bonds, fiduciary, credit unions)
  • Strong policy interpretation, coverage analysis, and litigation management skills
  • Experience managing large claims with significant financial exposure, start to finish
  • Experience managing defense counsel directly

Compensation: $150K base, plus discretionary incentive bonus and benefits

Required degree level

  • Bachelor

Years of experience

  • 5 - 10 years of experience

Salary range

  • $140,000 - $160,000 per year
