
Recovery Claims and Litigation Manager
Our client is a carrier hiring a Recovery Claims and Litigation Manager within its Legal Claims Team. You will direct large loss and complex recovery matters, with a primary focus on commercial property subrogation and high-value, high-net-worth personal lines losses.
You will hold settlement authority, advise claims leadership on significant recovery decisions, and lead a team that handles complex and litigated recoveries. You will also oversee vendor-assigned recovery programs to make sure results and standards stay consistent.
What You Will Do
- Set strategy and provide oversight for large loss, complex, and litigated subrogation matters across commercial property and casualty lines.
- Use your settlement authority and advise claims leadership on high-exposure recovery decisions.
- Lead, develop, and manage direct reports, setting clear performance expectations and supporting their growth.
- Oversee vendor-assigned recovery programs, including recovery desks and law firms. Monitor performance, handle escalations, and hold partners accountable.
- Act as the subject-matter expert and escalation point for recovery strategy, litigation management, and negotiation.
- Partner with claims leadership, adjusters, and operating companies to spot recovery opportunities and align on strategy for significant losses.
- Maintain recovery litigation guidelines, best practices, and performance standards for internal teams and vendors.
- Analyze recovery results, trends, and vendor performance, and bring reporting and recommendations to senior leadership.
- Train and mentor recovery staff handling large loss and complex claims.
- Travel occasionally for mediations, meetings, and vendor engagement.
What You Bring
- 7+ years of property and casualty claims or subrogation experience, with significant exposure to large loss, complex, and litigated matters. Commercial property recovery experience is ideal.
- A litigation background. This is required.
- Experience leading recovery professionals.
- Strong working knowledge of tort law, subrogation principles, litigation management, and Arbitration Forums processes.
- Proven experience managing external vendors, recovery desks, or litigation panels.
- Sound, independent judgment on high-dollar recoveries.
- Strong negotiation, analytical, and decision-making skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Comfort working with a high degree of autonomy while collaborating across business units and leadership.
- A law degree is preferred but not required.
