Compensation Overview
The annual base salary range provided for this position is a nationwide market range and represents a broad range of salaries for this role across the country. The actual salary for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment. As part of our comprehensive compensation and benefits program, employees are also eligible for performance-based cash incentive awards.

1What Is the Opportunity?
We are looking for a highly self-motivated, sales-oriented Account Executive Officer who will use their technical Loss Sensitive skills to work with Middle Market contractors who are seeking a group captive arrangement. Since this is a new product for the Construction Business Unit, the opportunity exists to be on the front end of creating and managing a successful group captive product for Construction customers. Strong sales and negotiation skills will be necessary to work with key Agents and Brokers to grow this captive membership.The Captive Account Executive Officer (AEO), Construction will partner with our Agents and Brokers to build a cell of Construction companies where Travelers' provides coverage and services for all Group Captive members.
As an AEO, you will use your decision-making, detail-oriented, and relationship-building skills, both internally and externally, to drive the results. Your ability to assess risk and sell our products will contribute to the profitability and success of this new Travelers Construction captive.
At a minimum, you will be responsible for:
- Understanding organizational and regulatory rules, policies and procedures for captives and effectively employing that knowledge in day-to-day work activities.
- Underwriting individual contractors for membership within the captive, with the goal of minimizing risk and maximizing profitability.
- Underwriting contractor companies, applying appropriate pricing techniques and designing appropriate program structure to produce optimal results on an individual risk basis while considering the captive program parameters to maximize profitability.
- Ability to take a portfolio view of the business within the captive to manage profitability.
- Managing Pre-Cure and Post-CURE in a timely and effective manner by initiating the process, preparing to discuss your position and effectively influencing and negotiating to reach agreement.
- Developing and maintaining relationships with internal partners within the business unit and across the enterprise to create sales plans and identify cross-selling opportunities.
- Fostering and maintaining relationships with external partners by using consultative marketing and sales skills to find new, and retain existing, customers within the captive program with a focus on:
- Independently establishing the marketing strategy for individual accounts/book of business in accordance with overall business strategy, modified to meet goals in each region.
- Developing and executing agency sales plans overall, with specific tactics that meet regional objectives.
- Regularly meeting with agents and brokers to market and sell this Travelers' Captive product, appropriately leveraging agent/broker relationships to maximize profitable growth.
- Strong negotiation skills to close deals and enroll contractors within appetite.
- In support of business objectives, making decisions within own underwriting authority.
- Achieving and maintaining the overall profitability, growth, and retention of contractors in this Construction captive.
Minimum Qualifications- 4 years of underwriting experience
Preferred Qualifications:
- 6 - 8 years of Account Executive/ underwriting experience, and at least 2 years of Loss Sensitive experience.
- Overall desire, self-motivation and ability to create an interest in this captive approach to build it into a viable cell within the captive.
- Ability to quickly gain knowledge of the Construction Group Captive product, the regulatory environment, and the local insurance marketplace
- Strong critical thinking skills with the ability to proactively identify underwriting, marketing or financial challenges and analyze available information to make timely decisions in alignment with our risk appetite.
- Identifies current or future problems or opportunities, analyzes, synthesizes and compares information to understand issues, identifies cause/effect relationships and explores alternative solutions to support sound decision making
- Communication skills with the ability to successfully negotiate with agents and brokers.
- Ability to hold a national role while understanding the needs of individual regions in terms of marketing this product to the right Agents and Brokers to maximize profitability and success.
- Willingness to travel around country as necessary (estimated to be 20-30% of time) to meet with internal and external Agents/Brokers and Contractors to sell this captive approach
- Bachelor's degree.
