Compensation Overview

The annual base salary range provided for this position is a nationwide market range and represents a broad range of salaries for this role across the country. The actual salary for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment. As part of our comprehensive compensation and benefits program, employees are also eligible for performance-based cash incentive awards.

What Is the Opportunity?

This position is part of a highly visible team working across Construction, Energy and Marine markets (CEM) which consists of Construction, Oil & Gas, Inland Marine, Ocean Marine, Renewable Energy and Environmental. This role is a primary point of accountability with business facing finance, systems, and other functional teams for the management of small to large-sized projects. These projects can range from adding new business capabilities to automate financial reporting processes and increasing financial analytics. This role is a key contact coordinating business planning and forecasting processes for CEM and also serves as a market representative on Middle Market and BI Finance Initiatives.

This role's primary objective is to decrease the amount of time that finance teams spend on processes so they can have more time for partnering and advising business leadership. management teams more directly.

Under General Supervision, this individual is responsible for using industry standard project management methodologies to analyze complex financial issues and to recommend and implement the most appropriate solution. This position does not manage others but may serve as a team lead and change agent on their assigned initiatives.

What Will You Do?

  • Lead projects to increase report automation and closing efficiencies.  Become acclimated with each business unit's concepts, practices and procedures.  Drive consistent formats and common reporting methodologies across all markets.  Ensure that adequate controls are in place to support accurate and timely completion of financial processes.
  • Serve as key contact for CEM Plan and forecast processes including:  Operate pro-forma models. Support production and GAAP input processes.  Maintain and deliver all CEM and business plan packages.  Build and test systems changes to enable planning for new business strategies and process automation.
  • Serve as a CEM finance representative on larger initiatives. Validate new data sets and test changes to BI/MM tools for CEM markets.  Assist business units to find root cause and correct inaccurate data and/or reported systems issues as well as upgrading controls to prevent future occurrences
  • Complete monthly reporting, closing, forecasting assignments for CEM centrally and within the business units.  Support underwriting product reviews (CUREs) and other assigned business initiatives. 
  • Perform financial controls in accordance with Sarbanes-Oxley requirements.

What Will Our Ideal Candidate Have?

  • Bachelor's degree in finance or accounting preferred.
  • Typically 3-4 years of related experience.
  • General knowledge of Financial Analysis concepts and processes.
  • General Knowledge: Possesses sufficient knowledge to perform most work in normal situations.
  • General knowledge of the insurance business.
  • Intermediate analytic skills.
  • General knowledge of accounting practices and principles.
  • Intermediate data utilization skills to access and gather data, including a basic understanding of what the data represents.
  • Intermediate written and verbal communication skills.
  • Intermediate time management/ prioritization skills.
  • Intermediate ability to solve problems and suggest solutions to problems.
  • Takes responsibility for decisions and actions.
  • Intermediate working knowledge of Microsoft Office (e.g. Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Intermediate project management skills.
  • Ability to identify customers needs and take appropriate action to meet those needs.
  • Ability to work well in tight timeframes and deadlines.
  • Intermediate skill/competency level: demonstrates solid knowledge and ability; can apply the competency with minimal or no guidance, in the full range of typical situations. Requires guidance handling novel or more complex situations.
