Compensation Overview

The annual base salary range provided for this position is a nationwide market range and represents a broad range of salaries for this role across the country. The actual salary for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment. As part of our comprehensive compensation and benefits program, employees are also eligible for performance-based cash incentive awards.

$96,500.00 - $159,200.00

What Is the Opportunity?

Our Experience Management, Journey Transformation, and Human-Centered Design efforts are reimagining and improving the experiences of customers, agents, and employees. Effective visual communication is critical to our success, so we are growing our capacity to use storytelling, information design, animation, and other media. This new team is a partnership between the Enterprise Experience Management group and our Creative Services department, and will provide creative leadership and design support for engagements across various parts of Travelers business.

The Creative Director will bring passion, vision, and a sharp strategic approach to the work. You will help us execute a variety of compelling work to show the experience of our users, and the potential for improvement and innovation. You will guide and directly execute concepts for storyboards, animations, videos, infographics, data visualizations, and more. And as a leader, you will help us build this new team and raise our level of effectiveness using emotional, visual, compelling stories and presentations across a variety of contexts.

This position may be based 100% remotely or in one of our offices.

What Will You Do?

  • Provide guidance on the creation, development, and delivery of a variety of content for use across different media and channels
  • Lead brainstorming of ideas and concepts
  • Mentor and assign work to team members, such as copywriters, graphic designers, conceptual designers, or videographers
  • Inspire and achieve a high level of strategic and creative execution
  • Partner effectively with other creative disciplines and functional areas to conceive of and execute great communication and campaign work
  • Prepare and present the work with in-depth knowledge of strategy and rationale for choices, articulating messaging, approaches, and priorities
  • Review concepts and manage progress with other creative leadership (e.g., Sr. Creative Director)
  • Develop, amend, and revise concepts and output in response to feedback from stakeholders and senior creative leaders
  • Keep self and others up to date with emerging cultural trends and developments
  • Ensure final output of all work is aligned with Travelers brand guidelines and adheres to internal approval processes
  • Guide, coach, and support to less senior members of the team
  • Effectively prioritize and manage several initiatives at once, balancing quality and timeliness of outputs
  • Work closely with partners, such as marketing leads, business unit stakeholders, and others to effectively align creative work with the appropriate strategy

What Will Our Ideal Candidate Have?

  • Bachelor's Degree in English, Graphic Design, Fine Arts, Marketing, Communications, Film Studies or related field or equivalent experience preferred.
  • 3 years of leadership experience preferred.
  • 6+ years of related experience, specifically in a creative design function preferred.
  • Thorough knowledge of company products, services, marketing strategies and company brand guidelines, standards/practices.
  • An exceptional on-line portfolio that showcases an understanding of line of expertise. Can be a mix of spec and actual work demonstrating innovative concepts and creative solutions.
  • Demonstrates excellent time-management and multi-tasking abilities, with the ability to independently meet deadlines, including internal check-ins.
  • Experience researching trends and interpreting/applying them.
  • Ability to persuade and motivate others through collaboration and cooperation.
  • Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely; disseminate information about decisions, plans and activities.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of design, video, motion graphics, and other emerging mediums.
  • Advanced project management skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Advanced ability to work independently and as a team member.
  • Advanced analytic and problem-solving skills.

What is a Must Have?

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a creative function.
