This position will be part of team responsible for providing comprehensive federal income tax reporting and compliance services to the Arch group, with a focus on US operations. This role supports the ACS Tax team in providing tax reporting services on a US GAAP and US Statutory basis. The role also includes coordination with the group's outside tax return preparer in the preparation and filing of Arch's consolidated US corporate federal income tax returns. The successful candidate will work with financial management within the company, personnel at the businesses units, service providers and other tax professionals within the Arch group.

Job Responsibilities

  • Assist with the preparation and review of the quarterly tax accrual/provision for US GAAP and US Statutory as well as tax footnote disclosures for financial reporting purposes
  • Assist with the preparation of all federal estimated tax payments, income tax returns and other returns
  • Participate in the development, documentation, and adoption of company policies and procedures relevant to tax management, including Sarbanes-Oxley Compliance
  • Assist with tax projects, planning, ad-hoc research and advice to the business
  • Manage tax planning issues with outside consultants, as well as with internal departments including legal and finance
  • Review questions which would affect our compliance with all relevant tax laws
  • Interact with external auditors, advisers and other stakeholders in relation to US federal income tax matters
  • Review tax regulation changes affecting the insurance industry and US corporate taxpayers
  • Provide and manage research on tax questions/issues affecting the company
  • Liaise with other groups within the business process to establish, support and maintain business relationships and organizational effectiveness
Required Skills/Experience

  • 3+ years public accounting corporate tax provision experience
  • Data analysis and data extract skills, including advanced Microsoft Excel skills and use of pivot tables
Desired Skills/Experience

  • Experience in property, casualty and/or mortgage insurance or reinsurance operations
  • Experience working with external auditors, internal controls and compliance-related issues
  • A thorough knowledge of GAAP and STAT as well as laws and regulations relating to US federal, state and international taxation of insurance and non-insurance corporate entities
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to effectively and persuasively interact with employees at all levels of the organization including Senior Management within and outside the organization
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills with attention to detail and a strong operational focus
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • In-depth knowledge of tax law, practices and compliance methods and strategies
  • Understanding of insurance specific tax adjustments
  • Strong general accounting knowledge and understanding of tax implications on general ledger and financial statements
  • Ability to manage deadlines and demonstrate effective time management
  • Knowledge and experience in the use of accounting systems
  • Experience in international tax and non-US parent company
Education

  • BA/BS Degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics or related field
  • CPA certification preferred
  • MBA, MST and/or degree in Taxation (JD) preferred
