American National is seeking a Business Intelligence Specialist III for the Business Intelligence and Analytics Department.

Responsibilities include:

• Understand business requirements and be able to relate these to the supporting data design requirements, producing simple technical specifications for the work to be done.
• Work with IT, Actuarial, Underwriting, Marketing and other areas to understand data structures, determine data definitions, and evaluate the accuracy of data elements.
• Perform unit and system testing using test plans and scripts approved by the business.
• Review test results with the business and coordinate necessary adjustments to the deliverables.
• Obtain user approval and facilitate the migration of deliverables to the locked-up production environment.
• Respond promptly and work with team to appropriately triage business user's questions, issues, and enhancement requests by serving on an on-call support rotation during business hours.
• Build reports using available data and assist/train report authors from various business areas.
• Act as a liaison between users and development teams to fulfill requests and resolve issues.
• Communicate fluently with internal representatives from various departments.
• Accurately record time and status to appropriate projects or support activity for billing.
• Demonstrate the documented ITS values and behaviors.

Qualification, Education and Experience:

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher learning or equivalent work experience (5-7 years) in the business or technical world.
• Four to six years of experience in developing or documenting data warehouses/data marts or business intelligence solutions.
• Ability to write simple SQL commands and scripts with little guidance.
• Professional demeanor and strong interpersonal skills.
• Logical thinking ability with keen attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Hands on experience creating reports in Power BI or IBM Cognos reporting platforms.
• Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Access.
• Experience with multi-dimensional and tabular cubes.
• Experience with IBM Netezza.
• Experience in the insurance industry.
• Obtained or completed courses towards an insurance designation such as CPCU or FLMI.
• Experience with data modeling techniques for target structures such as star schemas, snowflake schemas, and highly normalized data models.
• An aptitude for data manipulation and software engineering.
• Demonstrated ability to speak in front of a group and deliver presentations.

Candidates with less experience and/or education may be considered for a different level commensurate with their qualifications.
