Regional Business Development Manager

Job Summary

The Regional Business Development Manager will focus on managing production underwriting, business development, and staff in order to increase written premium, improve loss ratio and retention, and increase Company name recognition. In addition, maintain a high level of customer service and further develop the business potential within our operating territories while drawing upon the strategic direction of the corporation and the commercial business services department. This role will be based in the Charlotte, North Carolina area and responsible for Harford Mutual’s southern states.

Essential Duties

· Responsible for the premium development and loss experience of the commercial lines book of business.

· Management of Production Underwriters and support staff within unit. Provides mentoring, leadership and training to production underwriters.

· Participate in the development of marketing strategies, underwriting policy, pricing strategies, product development, and agency Internet services.

· Responsible for increasing the company’s presence within the geographic territories in which we operate, and improving the quality of the agency plant within those territories.

· Business Development Manager must know the business climate of the territories/states managed, to include legal conditions, market trends and competitor actions. Must possess a strong understanding of the company’s overall strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats in each territory managed. The business development manager must provide leadership to the production underwriters in finding solutions to problems and ways to exploit the opportunities.

· Work closely with the production underwriters to identify business opportunities within operating territory. Strategies are developed and presented to the corporation on how to capitalize on opportunities within the territory.

· Assists in the development of the annual business development plan.

· Responsible for the execution of the corporate strategies and business plan within their operating territory.

· Performs other duties or special projects as required or as assigned by a supervisor.


Job Requirements

Ø Minimum Bachelor’s Degree

Ø At least 10 years commercial lines underwriting and/or marketing experience

Ø Completion of or participation in the CPCU or CIC programs

Ø Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference

Ø Strong collaborating skills, and an ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team

Ø Comfortable in a fast-paced environment with frequent deadlines; high energy, self-motivated and proactive

Ø Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Ø Ability to multitask, and be flexible with regard to workload and assignments

Ø Ability to exercise judgment
